Sew. . . . .What's New?

As I sat at my craft table this morning, I knew that I wanted to make something that would allow me to combine several current challenges together in one project.  I came up with this little card using my "Sew. . . . .What's New" stamp.  This stamp has become a favorite of mine, and I've been using it quite a bit lately.  It's from Mark's Finest Papers & Stamps -a Heinrich Co. "I'm In Stitches" stamp set.  I also used the "Material Girl" stamp set from Crafty Secrets.  I thought they really went well together.

The patterned papers are from Basic Grey's Lemonade line.  The little girl and sentiment backing are both snippets from a vintage dress pattern wrapper.  Of course, I had to add some of my hand-made scrunched seam binding, jute, buttons, and stick pins.  Oh, and let's not forget the butterfly in the upper right corner.

For some reason, I am very drawn to sewing stamp sets and own a few different sets.  From this, one might guess that I'm quite the seamstress.  However, sadly, I am not.  I know how to sew and I sew on my scrapbooking pages and cards all the time.  But my actual sewing skills are not so great.  I can do simple mending, and possibly make a pillow or something simple.  I should branch out a bit and push myself to become a better seamstress.

I greatly appreciate your visit today, and hope that you're enjoying this beautiful weekend.  And, since my sentiment and blog post title are, "Sew. . . . .What's New", I'd love to hear what you're doing this weekend.  I hope it's restful and wonderful.

Blessings to you all, my crafty friends.

Karen

  1. Beautiful! My mom used to sew all the time when I was little, so it reminds me of her patterns and stuff. As a matter of fact, I just asked her the other day if I could have her old portable Singer. It still works and it's in the original wooden case. I'm supposed to pick it up when I'm up in the DFW area next time. You know how I love vintage stuff, so I can't wait. I'll be able to use it for my art work and it'll look great in my studio. Blessings!

  3. This is so sweet! I used to sew quite a bit growing up but got away from it. I haven't attempted to sew on my cards yet because, quite frankly, I'm afraid of breaking the needle. I recently bought a small size sewing machine for that purpose but haven't tried it yet. I think sewing on cards adds the perfect touch.

  12. Hi Karen, your sweet sewing card turned out 'sew' pretty! I love the colors you combined the burgundy color with the ribbon and used it in floss to wrap around the little thread card from our Material Girl stamp set!

We just got home from a week at our friends cabin and brought the sunny weather. I'm actually going to buy a sewing machine today so I don't have to keep borrowing my mom's and I won't ever be a tailor but I'm excited to get my own machine. Thanks for posting your pretty card in our August Linky Party and good luck in the draw!

  17. Hi Karen - love your card!
My weekend was wet (late winter here) and Sunday was church and then a 70 kilometer trip to a family 1st birthday party/farewell in the afternoon - a great gathering.
