You've Gotta Have Faith

I remember when I was a little girl, my Mom bought me a necklace that was a small glass heart with a mustard seed inside of it.  The heart rested on a delicate gold chain, and it was really pretty.  But I didn't understand why on earth she would buy me a mustard seed.  So I asked her, and she said that it's because of the Bible verse.  Of course, as a curious child, I asked her "what Bible verse"?  She explained to me that in Matthew 17: 20 Jesus tells us that if we have faith even as small as a grain of a mustard seed, we can tell a mountain to move from one place to another, and it WILL move, because nothing will be impossible for us.  I thought that was really strange.  Does it mean that our faith should be small, I wondered.  But as I studied about the mustard seed, I learned that although it was the smallest seed used in Bible times, it grew into the most powerful herb which eventually grew into a large tree.  So what it really meant was that if our faith was small, but we really trusted in that faith, God could grow it into something mighty.  What a wonderful lesson about faith.  It really made me take interest in this matter of faith, and helped me to learn how to grow my faith.  I still have my little mustard seed neckalce, and it has become a real treasure in my life.  Well that, and the fact that my Mom taught me the truths of God's Word so that they would bless my life.  I truly am a blessed person, and FAITH is a large part of why.  God blesses us when we are able to put our faith into practice and see the mighty blessings that come to us through that faith.
I made this card using My Mind's Eye and Cosmo Cricket patterned papers, PTI buttons, border die and jute, glitter, Prima letters, some Recollections flowers, machine stitching and the free digi word art available this week from Word Art Wednesday.  It's a quote from Helen Keller, and the "Light" she mentions in this quote is none other than the Light of the World, Jesus Christ. Come play along with us this week!

  9. A beautiful quotation and card. Helen Keller is really an inspiration! And how wise of your mother to give you that necklace. I'm sure she knew you would be curious enough to ask and that your talk would be memorable! I tried to answer your comment by email but you are a no-reply blogger. You may want to change your settings (unless of course you don't want replies by email): http://anyonecandecorate.blogspot.com/2012/09/are-you-no-reply-blogger-how-to-fix.html

  10. Hi Karen,

Thanks for sharing your beautiful story, and stunning card design. Its a reminder to me of how important it is to continually talk to our children about the Word of God. I am needing to focus more on that mustard seed faith these days, as we are all faced with situations that test our faith.

  19. Karen,
The card is just so beautiful.
The word faith is front and formost on your card just as your faith is first in your life. Everything else is beautifully aligned around it in various spots, as your family and friends have a place in your real life.
The 2 flowers and that delicate bow are just the icing on the cake.
    Happy New Year!
May the Lord bless you and keep you.
May the Lord make his face to shine upon you,
    and be gracious to you.
May the Lord lift up his countenance upon you,
    and give you peace.
