Sew Lovely

As some of you may know, I spent the weekend (Friday - Monday night) in Duluth, Minnesota with my brother as we shared some difficult news with our Dad.  He has late Stage 4 Colon Cancer, and he is failing quickly.  I poured my heart out to him; telling him how much I love him, how much I know he has always loved me, singing him songs and hymns, reading him scripture, and just letting him know that there is nothing to fear because God is with him always, and Dad has a bright future awaiting him in Heaven.  It was a difficult weekend, but a good one.  My Dad will turn 76 on May 26, and we really hope he has a good day on his birthday - whether it's a good day here on earth, or a GREAT DAY with Jesus in Heaven.
We did a lot of hand holding.  I didn't ever want to let go.  I really hope that I can get back to Duluth one more time before Dad goes....if time allows.  I really appreciate your prayers and sweet words of encouragement.  You all mean SO MUCH to me, and I praise God for you.  I didn't really have time for a whole lot of "fun stuff" while I was away, but I did get to run in to Hobby Lobby for about 15 minutes on our way to the airport.  Oh, and I also got a Bridgeman's ice cream cone.  At Hobby Lobby, I used a 40% off coupon to buy the Carta Bella Sew Lovely package with all the sweet patterned papers and stickers.  It's a lovely set - "sew lovely", in fact.  I made this card this afternoon while Andrew was at P.E. with his Dad.  Those few quiet minutes today were much appreciated, and much needed.  I needed a Get Well card for a friend, so this is it.  It uses all Carta Bella Sew Lovely products expect for the Maya Road stick pin, Top Dog Dies mini tag, and Kraft Outlet seam binding.
The "Feel Better Soon" sentiment is a Verve stamp. The border at the top was made with a Martha Stewart border punch.  I did some machine stitching, inking, and used a Prima flower.  It's really pretty simple.  Here's a close-up shot.
Thanks so much for stopping by today.  I am SO very grateful for your support, and I appreciate your encouragement.

I'm sharing my card here:

Have a blessed week!

  10. You and your family are in my prayers. Those precious moments will mean so much to you in the years to come. I have always considered myself blessed because we knew when both my parents were leaving us and were able to say our goodbyes. Hold those moments close.

  20. Karen, my love and prayers go out to you and your family. I know exactly how you are feeling right now as we went through the same from December through to February with my father-in-law. That was close to his birthday too and we were lucky to be able to celebrate his 89th year with him the week before he went Home. Hand holding featured heavily in all our visits too, and was such a blessing, as you will know.
Be strong knowing that he will be in good hands when he goes
    Hugs, Margaret xx

  21. Karen,

I'm so sorry to read about your dad. I can only imagine how difficult this weekend must've been. I'm very close to my dad so I really can't imagine how tough that was.

We homeschool our boys and every morning we pray for those that we know are sick or hurting. We'll be sure to include you and your family as you prepare to say "good bye" for a little while. I'll pray God grant you all peace as you go through this trying time.

    Hugs!
    Pat

  24. Hi Karen, God was so amazing for me when my mom was nearing death. I still remember being so excited for her. That she was finally going where we all long to be. She reached her 80th birthday, and then left us for heaven the next month. I used to see and talk to my mom every day so it's a lot harder now, and I tear up at the slightest thing. I guess it's a journey we all have to take. I pray for strength for you and your family. I pray for God's love to envelope your dad. God bless you all, patsy
