One Trick Pony

I'm sure it's no secret that I love making cards.  I make A LOT of them, and I post about 90% of the cards I make here on my blog.  However, my husband actually browsed through my blog today, and he made the comment, "People looking at your blog would think you're a one trick pony".  I asked him what he meant by that, and he said that I tend to only post my cards on my blog.  He asked why I never post any of the cute altered art projects I make (such as things made out of repurposed boxes, wooden spoons, antique bobbins and mason jars).  He said, "I don't see ANY of your other projects here....only cards".  Well, I started thinking about it for a while.  I really do tend to post only cards on my blog.  I'm really NOT a "one trick pony".....I promise!  I love making all sorts of altered art projects, mini albums, repurposed projects, etc.  So, with that said....I promise to start posting more of them.  I recently applied for a really fun Design Team, and I am PRAYING that they will see my potential, and not think like my husband did when he looked through my blog.  I really do need to push myself more, and to start sharing more of my art.
But.......in the meantime, I made another CARD!  Yes, I did.  Can you believe it?  A card!  I don't know why, but for some strange reason, I got it in my head that I needed to make a Christmas card today.  Perhaps it's because I've seen several Christmas cards popping up this week, and I started realizing that I don't want to get stuck this December, and have to create 50-100 cards all at once.
This card was made with several different products, and I'm quite certain that I cannot even name them.  I just started grabbing things and throwing them together.  I machine stitched the patterned paper, and I tied several lengths of jute around my card, and added some vintage-looking baker's twine, sequins and 3-D stickers.

I'm entering my card in a few challenges where it fits the current theme, as follows:

Pile It On Challenge Blog - Challenge #80 - Sequins And/Or Beads - I added sequins underneath my sentiment, as well as at the center of my twine bow.  I've had SO much fun playing with my sequins this week!

Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge - Simon Says "Tie It Up" - I chose to use both jute and baker's twine to "tie it up" on this card.

CAS-ual Chic Challenge - Udderly Adorable Layers - I absolutely LOVE using layers of patterned papers and embellishments.  What a FUN challenge!

Little Scrap Pieces - Link It Up and Show It Off Linky Party

It's so nice to have you stop by my blog.  I hope you're having an amazing day, and that you have had time to be creative.

  1. Love your cards, Karen - they are beautiful! I agree with your hubby though, you should share your other art as well! It all takes time, I know, but it blesses so many people to share!

Thank you for your really lovely comment on my Gutless Bag Lady blog - I also have my regular blog which has all my art stuff on it (there's a link top right on the GBL blog). So glad you found me via Arnoldo who I visit regularly on our WOYWW weekly blog hop. He's a wonderful believer and a tremendous artist, too. Thank you so much for your words of encouragement and for the beautiful verse from Jeremiah - here's another one from that same Prophet who I love because he is so full of joy and not miserable as everybody says lol! Jer. 29:11 which is a great promise.

Above all thank you for your prayers. Since my diagnosis in Jan. I realise that prayer has gone up from 6 of the 7 continents of the world for me (unless there is a penguin in Antarctica with me on his prayer list lol!) and I have been carried along on a tide of answered prayer. This means so much to me. I am so so sorry to hear about the loss of your sister... I can only imagine what you are going through and I pray that the Lord will comfort you in your loss. My dad died 18 months ago and I miss him so much - but he was 90 and had lived a long and full life.

There is every hope that they got rid of all my cancer with the surgery, and the chemo is to mop up anything that might remain. I am a lot better off than many, and I count my blessings daily. When I was first diagnosed I prayed that I would deal with all this properly, and be a good witness to Jesus throughout, and that through it my life would make a difference to others, and I have had a lot of feedback that that prayer is being answered. I would not have missed this whole experience for anything.

With every blessing to you, Karen, and thank you again. Thanks for following my GBL blog too!

  4. Thanks for visiting me again, Karen. I entirely agree with what you say! I am sorry to hear you are having computer problems. Try copying and pasting this direct: http://shoshiplatypus.blogspot.com rather than the link on my other blog - it might get you there! I soooo appreciate your continuing prayers! I have an appointment with the oncologist tomorrow (it would usually have been on Thurs. but she will be away then) and then my next treatment on Friday. This past 3 weeks has sped by!

I'm feeling pretty good at the moment and have been busy in my studio. I can't share any of it yet or the people receiving it will see it on my blog and the surprise will be spoilt! I should be able to post about it next weekend.

  7. No one would ever accuse you of being a one trick pony, Karen. I noticed the cool door hanger earlier. That's not a card. So glad you plan to show some of your other art. This Christmas card is really beautiful. Thanks for visiting my watercolor painting card.
