A Christmas Sweetie

Like most of you, as the holidays approached I immediately thought about weeks and weeks of making cards and projects in red, green and gold.  However, that all changed when I was asked to Guest Design this month for Paper Sweeties.  The inspiration photo for their challenge this month is just SO sweet and yummy.  It completely changed my thinking on Christmas cards and projects this year, and I've been using this color combination quite a bit.  Although I've recreated these ribbony Christmas trees several times, I always like to mention that the original idea came from (I believe) Melissa Phillips.
Pink, red and blue are a little bit different for Christmas cards and projects, and yet it somehow looks so sweet when it all comes together.  It reminds me of all that's sweet during the Christmas holidays.  Starting with a Bubble Gum Paper Straw, I tied torn strips of fabric, tulle, ribbons, lace, Blueberry and Cotton Candy Seam Binding and cotton twill around the straw (tree trunk).  I used small pearl accent stickers as spacers on the tree.
The background for my card is white card stock topped with a piece of vellum.  On the vellum, I stamped the snowflake image from the Homemade With Love Stamp Set in red, blue and pink.  Then, I added a tiny tag that I stamped with the word JOY from the Season of Love Stamp Set (Retired), and I topped the tag with an inked Red & White Striped Chenille Candy Cane.
I'm certain that Debbie and the Design Team Members at Paper Sweeties would love to have you stop by and play along in this super sweet challenge.  I sure couldn't resist making something special for the challenge.  I just love playing with these sweet products (even though many of mine are outdated....they're still super cute).  Thanks for stopping by today!

Paper Sweeties Challenge #50 - Inspiration Photo - I used six Paper Sweeties products on my card.  Can you find them all?

Mod Squad Challenge Blog - Challenge: Trees and Snow - I made my "Ribbony Christmas Tree" out of ribbons and laces.  The "snow" on my tree is created by all the ripped and frayed materials that look like snow on my "tree" as well as the vellum background with softly stamped snowflakes on the vellum to give the illusion of snow.

Retro Rubber Challenge Blog - Challenge #53 - Merry Christmas - As explained above, I used a Paper Sweeties stamp set on this card (snowflakes on the background as well as the JOY sentiment) from their Season of Love Stamp Set that is now retired.  I'm guessing it's at least three years old, and it was fun to pull it out and use it.

  17. Very creative card. I like the use of those ribbons. I have so many that are just too small to tie into a bow and too big to throw away. I like this idea. Love your colors.
