Birthday Fishes Interactive Card w/CCS

When it comes to making Interactive Cards, it really does matter what kind of cardstock you use.  To get the best results and have the interactive mechanism on your card or project work properly, I would highly recommend the high-quality cardstocks from CutCardStock.  They are truly fabulous, and they've made all the difference in my cardmaking.

All the cardstocks I used on this card are from CutCardStock.  They include the base which is Astrobright 80 lb. Eclipse Black Cardstock, then DCS Textured Seafoam Green Cardstock, then DCS Texturized Pearly Curry Green Cardstock, and finally DCS Cougar White 160 lb. Cardstock.  All these same colors were used to cut and piece together the fish which is from The Greetery.

When you open the flap, there's an adhesive under the green star and the flap will stick to the other side revealing a 2.5" honeycomb ball.  I also added some baker's twines and a bit of cheesecloth to represent a fishing net.  Here's a photo (below) of the fish with the green honeycomb ball revealed.

The Challenge FUN Continues at Seize The Birthday

If you're anything like me, you're always looking for a FUN challenge where you can be inspired to create cards that you actually need and will use.  One of those FUN challenges is Seize the Birthday.  We all need to have Birthday cards readily on hand; and at Seize the Birthday Challenge, you will always be inspired to create wonderful Birthday cards for everyone on your list.....and then some.

The "Extra Topping" (which is an Option to the Anything Goes theme) for this challenge is "Favorite Color(s)".  When I saw this theme, I immediately knew which patterned papers I wanted to use.  This line is an OLD favorite of mine.  It's called Oh Darling by Crate Paper and it's adorable.  My "favorite" color (or color combo actually) is found in this line.  I don't even have the proper names for these colors, but I'm calling them soft seafoam green and a blush pink sorbet.  From the time I first laid eyes on this color combo (in this particular line), I was immediately smitten and have been hooked ever since.  LOVE.

I used a light kraft card base and attached the Oh Darling patterned papers.  I used lots of stickers, journalling cards, ephemera and goodies from the Oh Darling line on my card as accent pieces.  Yes, there's a lot going on there, so feel free to ask questions.  I added some tulle, some Mint Baker's Twine and Melissa Frances blush tulle ribbon.  Once I had all the goodies in place, I used the space on the journalling card to cut the awesome medallion using the Honeycomb Basics Dies and Hey Honeycomb Sentiments Stamp Set from The Greetery.  What a FUN surprise on a card!

You attach the (color of your choice) Honeycomb Ball to the bottom circle and top it/cover it with the stamped and cut half piece.  This will eventually be folded open to reveal the honeycomb ball.  It sticks to the little die-cut heart which has been cut using 3-D Foam Tape to hold the honeycomb open once the recipient reveals it.  How FUN!  I do apologize for so many (four) photos, but I wanted you to be able to see the honeycomb open as well.

May Challenge at The Four Seasons

It's time for the fun new May Challenge at The Four Seasons, and we really hope that you'll be inspired to come play along with us again this month.  I was so inspired by the beautiful flowers in the photo and that was where I started my creative thought process.  I gathered up some supplies and got started with my pretty floral card.  The colors, flowers and greenery spoke to my creativity this time.

I started with a basic cream cardstock that I layered with a very old patterned paper from my stash.  I'll guess this paper is well over 10-15 years old.  I think it's made by My Mind's Eye.  The floral print is on one side, and the pink gingham is on the other.  I created my card base from these papers and used Scor-Tape to secure everything.  The little cross-stitch piece (circle) was left over and still sitting on my craft table from another project I'd just finished.  I chose to incorporate it by stitching a small pink flower on it.  This die-cut set is from The Greetery and they are called Hoopla Dies.

Next, I added a Green Mulberry Leaf, some Solid Pink Baker's Twine and a sentiment strip.  The strip itself was cut using the Fishtail Banner Dies, and it was stamped with a sentiment from Stamp Simply.   The stamping on the pink gingham paper uses the Going Postal Stamp Set from Creative Worship (the cancelled stamp and the 25 cents).  I also added a Tim Holtz Miniature Rusty Paper Clip and some vintage scotch tape.

Another important thing to remember is that the inspiration photo is just a suggestion.  It's a place to start but doesn't have to be taken literally.  Meaning that you don't necessarily have to use flowers on your cards.  Maybe the colors inspire you, maybe the textures, the raindrops or the greenery, etc.  Whatever you create to share with us this month at The Four Seasons simply needs to be a Spring project.  That duck is adorable!  That might inspire you.

SMILE, It's Your Birthday! w/Really Reasonable Ribbon

What would make you SMILE on your Birthday?  I think a big bunch of colorful pastel balloons would put a smile on my face.  And for the times when you can't send an actual bunch of balloons, you can send a FUN Birthday card like this one to put that smile on their face and wish them a happy day.  All the pretty trims are from Really Reasonable Ribbon that hold the ends of these sweet Birthday balloons.

I used white cardstock and Crimped Frame Dies from The Greetery to cut the layers of my card.  The patterned papers are from the Little Bo Peep line by Crate Paper (from my excessive stash of patterned papers). After I'd cut each rectangle, I attached one using pieces of Scor-Tape which is fabulous Adhesive with amazing long-lasting hold.  The biggest ballon was cut out using a circle die that I turned into a balloon.  The sentiment inside the big balloon is from Bonnie Garby Designs and is found in the Birthday Greetings 3 Digital Stamp Set.  You'll always find the most awesome sentiments at Bonnie Garby Designs.

The smaller balloons were die-cut from white cardstock that I rubbed with various soft colors of oxide inks.  I splattered them with white acrylic paint just a bit.  Some of them have streamers that were die-cut and some have balloon string that were cut from various shades of Solid Baker's Twine.  Really Reasonable Ribbon carries fabulous Adhesives, Baker's Twine, Laces, Jute, Mulberry Flowers and trims galore.

What trims are calling your name?  Perhaps some Baker's Twine at just TEN CENTS per yard, or some gorgeous Seam Binding at just THIRTY CENTS per yard?  Some Mulberry Flowers to accent your cards would be a lovely choice as well.  Whatever you might need to adorn your cards, you'll find much of it at Really Reasonable Ribbon,  Why not treat yourself today?  Go on....you deserve it.

Christmas is Coming w/Really Reasonable Ribbon

It's hard to believe that Christmas is right around the corner.  I'm SO unprepared this year.  Last year, I had all my shopping done very early and had a real grasp on it all.  Not so much this year.  I'm behind on everything, and at this point, I kinda don't care.  I just want to enjoy family and not worry about all the shopping, baking and decorating.  Yes, I'm being lazy.  LOL   However, I'm not behind on my crafting.  That's one thing I always have time to do.  And all the wonderful products from Really Reasonable Ribbon help me to get the job done every time.

I used basic white cardstock to stamp everything.  I used stamps from The Greetery including the Ornament Box Top Vertical Rubber Stamp for the frame.  I don't actually own this stamp, so I borrowed it from my BFF, Patti Lyn.  We've been friends for over 55 years now.  She mailed it to me to borrow, and I don't want to return it....LOL.  It's SO cute.  I used the adorable Curio: Attic Ornaments Die and the Pine Dies for the foliage.

Each ornament was tied with a different trim from Really Reasonable Ribbon.  I used a length of Solid Apple Green Baker's Twine, Cotton Candy Baker's Twine and Iridescent String to tie the tops of the ornaments.  I used lots of Scor-Tape to hold everything securely in place.  Scor-Tape is an awesome Adhesive, and it comes in a wide variety of widths to work with every project you can imagine.

Christmas Inspirations at The Four Seasons

It's time for the December Challenge at The Four Seasons, and this month we're ready to celebrate Christmas and we've got lots of great inspiration to get your creativity started.  There's a gorgeous inspiration photo in addition to the beautiful cards shared by our talented Design Team.  The card I created to inspire you all was SO much fun to make as we all start thinking about Christmas.

I used basic white cardstock to stamp everything.  I used stamps from The Greetery including the Ornament Box Top Vertical Rubber Stamp for the frame.  I don't actually own this stamp, so I borrowed it from my BFF, Patti Lyn.  We've been friends for over 55 years now.  She mailed it to me to borrow, and I don't want to return it....LOL.  It's SO cute.  I used the adorable Curio: Attic Ornaments Die and the Pine Dies for the foliage.

Celebrate Your Special Day

Like most of you, I just LOVE making cards.  It's especially exciting when I'm able to make cards that are purely just for fun.  This is one of those cards.  I also enjoy playing along in challenges when I'm able, and that's what I'm hoping to do with this card.  If you know of a good challenge, please let me know.  I'm always on the look-out for fun challenges - especially when there are prizes involved.  Although I don't win anywhere very often, it's always fun when I'm able to try.

I pulled out some of my favorite patterned papers from my stash.  They're from an old Crate Paper line called Emma's Shoppe.  They include the papers, stickers and chipboard piece I used.  That super FUN party hat die-cut I used is from The Greetery.  I posted a different version of this card today on Instagram that included a 2" honeycomb ball.  I created this version so that the card can be placed in an envelope and mailed.

When I changed out the honeycomb ball, I used the Honeycomb Party Hat Die Set to cut the fringed circles instead.  In the center, I placed a cute little plaid Cabachon Flatback Embellishment from Really Reasonable Ribbon.  This gives it dimension but still leaves it flat enough for the envelope.  This is such a cute color combination, and although not everything is perfectly matchy-matchy, I'm fine with that.

The little journalling card behind the Party Hat is from We R Memory Keepers, and it is a SUPER old item from my stash.  I've been trying to incorporate some of my stash items.  AND....if anybody (in the United States) is in need of stamps or ephemera, please let me know.  I'm happy to share my ridiculous over-load of product.  God has blessed me exceedingly abundantly - just as His Holy Word says He will.

Honeycomb Balloons Birthday Card

Well, I don't know about you; but I absolutely fell in LOVE when I saw the fairly recent release called Honeycomb Basics from The Greetery.  They keep coming out with the most irresistible products, and I can't find the strength to say no.  Just look at how sweet these Honeycomb Balls are.  I can't get enough of them.  The left side of the circle has a small adhesive heart.  You peel the adhesive backing from that little white heart, and you simply open the Honeycomb Ball to reveal the sweet ball.  So....the little honeycomb balls will appear once the recipient peels the tab and sticks the other side to the sticky tab (heart) that was cut from Adhesive Foam.  How clever, right?  That's what holds the honeycomb ball on the other side and creates the balloon.  Adorable!  This clever die-cut set and coordinating stamp set can be found at The Greetery.  All the patterned papers, ephemera, and stickers I used are from Crate Paper.

Above (and again below) you will see the card and matching tag.  I made the tag so that you could see how CUTE these Honeycomb Balls are when opened.  I used a teal one on the teal balloon, and a soft pastel pink on the pink one on the card.  The bright pink one was used for the tag, and this is one that you see in its open position.  You can find Honeycomb Balls in every color and size.  Aren't they FUN?  I couldn't help myself.....I ordered the rest of these fabulous die-cuts including the party hat, the flower and the ice cream cone; so I'll be making lots of these fun cards.

The Honeycomb Basics Stamp Set contains all the cute sentiments you see on the balloons (in their closed position).  There are cute little arrows and signs to tell you where to open the Honeycomb Balls.  You can also use these cute Honeycomb Balls to make flowers, ice cream cones and suns (among other things).  SO cute.  The stamped Happy Birthday sentiment I used is from Paper Sweeties.

What's Up Chickie? w/The Four Seasons Challenge

Are you ready for another FUN challenge? Well, if so, then head on over to The Four Seasons Challenge for our April challenge which, once again, has a Spring theme. This means you can create anything that says "Spring" to you. We look forward to seeing what you'll create to share with us this month. I made a sweet little cross-stitched card with a Spring feel. I used corrugated cardboard for my base and I layered that with a Crate Paper patterned paper and a journalling card that I machine stitched to my card base. Next, I used the darling Hoopla Dies from The Greetery to cross-stitch my chick. I found the pattern on Pinterest. It's always FUN to pull out my DMC floss and do some hand stitching.

I added some Orange Baker's Twine to the top of the embroidery hoop and topped it with a Moss Green Open Rose.  I love to add dimension, textures and layers to my cards so the cross-stitch element was a lot of fun.  I found the chick cross-stitch pattern on Pinterest.  The stamped sentiment is from the What's Up Chickie Stamp Set from Paper Sweeties.

Let Love Bloom at The Card Concept

It's time for another FUN challenge at The Card Concept and we hope that you will come by to play along with us.  This beautiful inspiration photo (below) got my creativity going at just one glance.  I was immediately drawn to the bird, the soft blue and pink, and the light feeling of Spring.  That's what I tried to capture in my card.

I used basic white cardstock, patterned paper and vellum to create my card base.  The nest was cut from painted corrugated cardboard using the Jumbo Curiosity Nest Die from The Greetery.  I splattered it with paints.  The bird is a die-cut from Simon Says Stamp.  I colored the bird by rubbing him with oxide inks.  The same is true of the eggs that are also found in the Jumbo Curiosity Nest Die from The Greetery.

The sentiment is from an Echo Park Spring Market stamp set that I picked up at Hobby Lobby several years ago.  I love the soft colors in the inspiration photo and my goal with this card was to balance those soft pastels with the images I wanted to incorporate (bird, nest, eggs).  You can let your creativity lead you when creating a card for this challenge.  Simply look at the inspiration photo and let the colors, images, or mood inspire your creativity.  We really look forward to seeing what you'll make to share with us.

Happy Easter w/Really Reasonable Ribbon

Happy Easter, everyone.  This year seems to be flying right by us, doesn't it?  It's hard to believe that Easter is just around the corner.  Well, if you're like me, sending out Easter cards is always something I love to do.  Really Reasonable Ribbon can help you create some lovely cards for Easter and all year long.

I used cream cardstock for my base and a JilliBean Soup orange plaid patterned paper.  Then, I cut another piece from cream cardstock using the Crimped Frames Die from The Greetery.  The carrots and shiplap planks are also dies from The Greetery.  I added some bundled Natural Burlap String to the tops of the carrots.  I just LOVE the texture that the Burlap String adds to cards, and this lovely trim comes in over 20 gorgeous colors and costs just ten cents ($0.10) per yard.  I used more of the Natural Burlap String on my matching tag.  The Blessings Word Die is from Stamp Simply.

I used lots of Scor-Tape to adhere the layers of paper, the carrots and the shiplap wood planks.  I used lots of wonderful oxide inks on everything as well.  At the bottom of my card, I added some lovely Orange Baker's Twine and Solid Ivory Baker's Twine.  Baker's Twine is another wonderful trim that comes in over 20 gorgeous colors and costs just ten cents ($0.10) per yard.  It's amazing how much great beauty and texture is added by using one simple trim.

Celebrate Spring w/The Four Seasons Challenge

Spring is here, hurray.  The weather is changing, flowers are blooming and signs of the new season are all around us.  We're taking this month to celebrate these signs of Spring with a brand new fun challenge over at The Four Seasons Challenge Blog, and we SO hope that you will join us.  We can't wait to see how the beautiful inspiration photo will speak to your creativity.  Here's what it inspired me to create.

I was drawn to the sweet little blue bird in the bottoms left corner of this beautiful inspiration photo.  I just love the blues and yellows in this photo, and I also love the bird, the greenery, and all the things that say Spring.  What inspires you when you look at this lovely photo?

I used basic black cardstock and then a piece of patterned paper from the Wood Textures 6x6 Paper Pad from The Craft Consortium.  I also used a piece of watercolor paper and I rubbed it with Marigold and Fossilized Amber Tim Holtz Oxide Inks to create the background.  I used those colors along with Weathered Wood and Denim Jacket when stamping the birds.

The birds were stamped using my Misti and a beautiful set called Robin & Wren from The Greetery.  The branches and leaves are from a Stamp Simply set called God Will Take Care of You.  There is a die-cut set for the God Will Take Care of You stamps, but I couldn't find mine so I fussy cut them.  I used Hickory Smoke Oxide Ink on the edges of my card.  The sentiment is also found in the God Will Take Care of You stamp set.

As You Like It Challenge Blog - Favorite Stencil or Freestyle Background - I do enjoy using a stencil when I remember to do so, but I think I prefer a freestyle background.  The reason why is because I can add whatever color matches my card theme and I especially love rubbing oxide inks on my backgrounds.  But....sometimes I do both.
